Ohm's law

Basic Electrical Lab · free online experiment, runs in your browser with no install or sign-up.

Objective

Measure the current in a resistor at a fixed voltage and confirm V = I·R.

Procedure

  1. Press Start Simulation and read the ammeter and voltmeter.
  2. Change R1 to 4.4 kΩ: the current halves.
  3. Change the battery to 5 V: the current halves again.

Theory

Ohm's law: I = V / R. A 10 V source across 2.2 kΩ drives 4.545 mA; doubling R halves the current.

Questions to answer

  1. What is the power dissipated in R1?

Components used

Battery / DC source, Panel ammeter, Panel voltmeter, Resistor 220 ohm 1/4W

About the model

Ideal wires; component models as listed in the catalogue (no parasitics, no temperature drift). Built without a breadboard so the schematic stays readable.
